SELF CARE

My body and me.

by Kristi Trujillo | Jul 1, 2019

Dear Little Kristi,

As I pick you up, I want you to know you are loved. You matter. Your body is a gift.

Even though you get glasses in 3rd grade, you still have beautiful, almond shaped eyes. Even if you think your nose is too big, be proud your Native heritage. When you’re in elementary school, don’t let the teasing about being bigger or heavier than the other kids get you down. Your weight doesn’t define you as a person. You are so much more than a number on the scale. Just wait and see.

Kristi as a child

Your body will change and the number on the scale will fluctuate. What remains constant is that your body is there with you to take you on many different journeys. It is your home and yours alone. You’ll eventually be comfortable in your own body and grow to love and respect yourself more than anything else in the world.

Love your brown skin. You are from this land and so are your ancestors. Ground through your feet as you stand tall. Breathe in fully what you desire. Breathe out what you no longer need and doesn’t work for you.

Move your body but also listen to it for when you need to rest. Your body wants you to build and strengthen your muscles.

Move your body but also listen to it for when you need to rest. Your body wants you to build and strengthen your muscles. Your sweat will cleanse your mind and spirit. It’ll also help you feel better emotionally. You’ll learn that your body craves yoga.  It’s the perfect way for you to open your heart to yourself, to heal your wounds and show yourself some love. Honor your body and love it since it’s the only one you’ll ever have. Be kind to your body and know that your heart beats for you alone and that sound is what keeps you going.

Get some rest sweet Kristi. Your body is ready to carry you to all of your dreams and wishes. You have work to do.

Love,

Your future self

A Resilient Gift

The assumption would be if you met me and saw me is that being petite (I’m almost 5’1) with a muscular, athletic frame that I’m content with my body. Truth is I’m pretty content now, but it has been a long road to get here.

Permission

Permission

YOGA | SELF CARE Yoga gave me permission to fall in love with my body. The universe sends us so many messages about what we ‘should’ look like and what a ‘real’ yoga body is.  That message was telling me I wasn’t good enough so naturally I was relating my worth to...

Overcoming Other’s Opinions on the Mat

YOGA | HEALTH & WELLNESSI first began yoga for my joint health. I had desperately wanted to run, but my joints were not receptive to my weight and gait back then. So, I would drag my ass to the yoga studio for the asana, and without fail, each class would be...
